Deep blue on one side, off-white on the other, and a full botanical design worked into both. Turn it over when the room changes and you have a different blanket on the bed.

A patterned throw is the one thing in a room you cannot quietly undo later. This one has its second answer built in.

Both sides are the front

One face is a pale, almost white ground carrying a large botanical drawing in terracotta, ochre, dusty pink and powder blue. The other is a deep denim blue, patterned in its own right, the flowers and leaves drawn across it in cream and gold.

Pale side up it lifts a dark bed and keeps the pattern quiet. Blue side up it anchors a room full of white and oak. Fold the top edge back on itself and you get both at once with the fringe running along the fold, which is how it looks best on a made bed.

The flowers are woven in, not printed on

Print sits on the surface, so a printed cloth shows a pale reverse. Turn this one over and there are flowers on that side too, on a ground of their own.

You can feel it as well as see it. The motifs sit very slightly proud of the ground, so a hand run across the cloth finds the flowers before it finds the flat.

The fringe is the cloth's own yarn, knotted

Along the ends the weave runs out into a plain woven band, and below that the warp threads are gathered and knotted into a tassel fringe. The colors in it are the colors in the design, so it reads as part of the blanket rather than as trim sewn on afterwards.

Which of the three sizes

Small is the one-person size, across a reading chair or folded at the foot of a bed. Medium covers a double at full width and hangs down each side, which makes it the one if this is going to be the blanket you sleep under.

Large is the king size and it reaches properly down both sides. After that it is only a question of which way up you want the room.

Care

We recommend hand washing it in cool water, on its own.

It will also take a cold machine wash on a delicate cycle, if that is easier.

No bleach and no harsh detergent, and keep it away from other colors in the wash. Tumble dry it on low heat or hang it to dry, and let it dry all the way through before you fold it away.
